Solar payback FAQ
Short answers to what homeowners ask first.
Is solar worth it in 2026?
It depends on your installation price, electricity rate, sunlight, export credits and how long you plan to own the home. Without the federal credit, the price per watt matters more than ever.
Is my quote too high?
Divide the cash price by system watts. The 2026 marketplace average is about $2.60/W, varying by state. More than about 10% above your state's average is worth challenging with competing bids.
Should I lease instead of buying?
A lease or PPA lowers upfront cost, but long-term savings are usually smaller and the contract affects a future home sale. Compare the full terms against buying.
Does this include loan interest or batteries?
No. It models a cash purchase without a battery. Both need separate modeling, so ask installers for a separate financed quote and battery quote.
Why is there a dip in year 13?
That's the inverter replacement. Panels usually last 25+ years, but inverters often need replacing once. Microinverters, or an inverter with a 25-year warranty, skip it: pick that on the From bill & quote tab.
Is this financial or tax advice?
No. It's an educational estimate. Confirm financial, tax, engineering and legal questions with qualified professionals.
Need loans, leases or a battery modeled? The Excel & Google Sheets kit compares cash vs loan vs lease/PPA, checks whether a battery pays off, and compares up to 3 quotes with a YES/NO verdict.
