About
Two numbers can tell you more than the brand on the front.
Milk Code Finder is a free, independent tool from Worth It Calcs.
The brand on the front of a milk carton tells you who's selling it. The small plant code near the date tells you where it was actually processed — and that's often a surprise. Store brands and name brands sometimes come out of the same building. A “local” brand might be bottled two states away.
That information is public, but it's buried in a long FDA list built for regulators. We built this so anyone standing in a grocery aisle can get the answer in a few seconds, on a phone, with one hand.
What we promise
- Only real data. Every result comes from FDA's Interstate Milk Shippers List and links back to it.
- Honest limits. We tell you what a code proves and what it doesn't.

Inspiration and credit
Milk Code Finder was inspired by Cassandra's research on milk processing plant codes, shared on the Becoming a Farm Girl YouTube channel.
Her video introduced viewers to a simple question: where was the milk in their carton processed?
This website was independently developed to help consumers search publicly available FDA plant records and compare milk prices.

Data sources and limitations
Processing plant information comes from the FDA Interstate Milk Shippers List.
A plant code identifies a facility listed in the FDA directory. It does not necessarily identify the farm that produced the milk, establish that two products contain identical milk, or determine their quality, safety, freshness or nutritional composition.
Plant records may change. Check the linked FDA source when current facility information matters. How it works explains the data in detail.
Milk prices entered into the comparison calculator are supplied by users. Calculated savings are estimates, not guarantees.
